The park goes to summer hours on the 1st and the express bus drops to the green season on the 7th, so the first week of April runs on last winter’s timetable and the rest does not. The first infants arrive.

What the monkeys are doing in April

April is the first of the births and the last of the bathing, and neither is reliable — it is the month both things are ending or beginning. Infants. Births run April to June, with the peak in May, and the pool is largely out of use by now.

The park publishes a predicted time for the monkeys coming down from the mountain and asks visitors to check before traveling and again on the day, through its live cameras and social accounts — which is the only thing that answers «will they be there today», and it is free.

The cherry blossom is mid-April in the city, 400 m below the park, and by then there are two centimetres of snow in an average month. They are two different days.

NOTHING ON SALE CHANGES THIS Park staff work to attract the monkeys during opening hours, but the monkeys may not show up at all on certain days; appearances are particularly sporadic in autumn. Seven of the 21 tours on this site include the ¥800 (≈$5.1) gate fee in the price and the rest leave it at the gate; not one of them includes a monkey.
