TWO RATIOS THE PARK NEVER SPELLS OUT
The group rate is 15% off to the yen — ¥680 is exactly 0.85 × ¥800, and ¥340 is exactly the same fraction of ¥400. And both annual passes cost precisely 6.25 admissions: ¥5,000 ÷ ¥800 and ¥2,500 ÷ ¥400 give the same number. So the pass pays for itself on your 7th visit — which is a fact about the photographers who come back every week, not about you.
- WHAT THE GATE TAKES
- Cash, credit cards, e-money; no QR-code payments. The last clause is the one that catches people: the QR-code apps that work everywhere else in Japan do not work here.
- WHEN YOU CAN USE IT
- 8:30–17:00 from April–October and 9:00–16:00 from November–March. Open every day (weather closures possible), and the park asks visitors to arrive 30 minutes before closing time — so in winter the real deadline is 16:00 minus the 40-minute walk.
- WHAT IT IS NOT
- Not timed, not transferable to another date, and not a queue-jump. It is one day's entry to one valley.
- THE GROUP RATE, HONESTLY
- It needs 20 people in one party, which is a coach, not a family. It is here because it explains how a tour absorbs the fee, not because you are going to claim it.

Only one of these seven prices is optional, and it is the ordinary one: 7 of the 21 tours on this site quote a price with the ¥800 (≈$5.1) already inside it. That is not a saving — it is the same money in somebody else’s purchase — but it is one fewer thing to buy on a morning when the window has a queue.
What changed on 6 August 2026
One sentence: the park started selling entry online, dated to the day, on 6 August 2026. Everything people now argue about follows from how small that change actually is.
Until then there was exactly one way in: walk up, queue at the window, pay. Since 6 August 2026 the park sells a dated ticket, no time slots through webket, its own ticketing platform. That is the whole change — and most of the advice written before that date is now describing a park that no longer works quite that way.
You choose a date
And only a date. There are no time slots, so nothing about the ticket decides when you arrive or how long you stay.
It is the park's own platform
Not a reseller. The ticket you buy is the park's entry ticket, bought early.
It does not skip a queue
There is one gate and one path. What it removes is the risk of reaching that gate and being turned back, not the walk or the wait.
The price is not published separately
The park has not published a separate online price; only the gate prices above are published. Budget ¥800 (≈$5.1) and treat anything else as a surprise, not a plan.
How far ahead is not published either
The park has not said how many weeks the calendar runs. If you are planning months out, check the date is offered before you build a day around it.
The window did not close

Turning up without one
The ticket window is still open every day the park is. The question is not whether you can buy at the gate — you can — but on which days that stops being a safe assumption.
Ticket window still operates; on crowded days entry may be delayed or refused. That single sentence is the park's own, and it is the whole risk: not that you will be charged more, but that on a particular kind of day you may wait, or not get in when you wanted to.
When the park is congested, entry may be limited for a time; the park has said it plans to cap the number of tickets on especially busy days, and asks visitors to come by public transport because parking is very limited. That is the park's wording, stated in the park's winter 2025/26 notice; no winter 2026/27 notice published as of 2026-09-03.
The park names the New Year holidays, long weekends and winter weekends. Those are also the days the monkeys are most reliably in the water, which is exactly why everyone is there.
Reportedly around 2,000 visitors a day (media reports citing the park, June 2026); the park itself has not published the number It appears on this page in this paragraph and nowhere else — no figure elsewhere on this site is built on it.
The honest rule: in November–March, on a weekend or a holiday, arrive holding a ticket — bought online or carried by a tour. From April–October, on an ordinary weekday, the window is still a perfectly good plan and the queue is a few minutes.

What ¥800 (≈$5.1) does not buy
The ticket is entry, and entry only. Four things people expect it to include are not in it, and one of them is most of the money.
THE TICKET IS THE SMALL NUMBER
¥800 (≈$5.1) is between an eighth and a sixth of what a self-guided day from Nagano Station costs — 12% of the express-bus version and 16% of the train-and-local-bus one. Every hour spent optimising the entry fee is an hour spent on the cheapest part of the day.
- WHO CANNOT USE A TICKET AT ALL
- Wheelchairs and pushchairs cannot be used — the approach is slopes and stairs, and no animals may be brought in, service dogs included — the animal rule is absolute and catches people out every week.
- BEFORE YOU BUY FOR A PARTICULAR DAY
- The park publishes a predicted time for the monkeys coming down from the mountain and asks visitors to check before traveling and again on the day, through its live cameras and social accounts On an autumn date that forecast is worth more than the ticket.
